Each with 6 hand-coloured etched plates with deckle edges. Original printed wrappers; non uniform but similarly styled quarter morocco slipcase and chemise. SUPERB UNCUT COPIES IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS . Part 3 is is strongly suggestive of arrested speed and rising dust; depicting out-of-control coach drivers, this series was originally published at one guinea. Two plates are watermarked 1825. The Dixon copy was described as ‘the first to appear at a public sale in America’. In part 4 Cockneys take their mounts to the open fields on a spring holiday. While Ben Tally Ho is not named as the author, a quotation is attributed to him on the cover: 'Of all the Unting days, Easter Monday is for me.' a cockney yearning contrasting with Somerville's early 18th century view of hunting as a sport of the 'chosen few'. The second plate is watermarked 1827, and the rear wrapper 1822. n contrast to the previous part, the name of ‘H. Alken’ is prominently displayed on the wrapper of part 5. As their upper crust remarks reveal, fashionable Leicestershire huntsmen are different to but not necessarily more competent than the cockney rider. Plates with 1829 watermark. The motto on the wrapper to part 6 is ‘Shoot folly as it flies’, and the ‘Ideas’ concern dim-witted sportsmen, unable to grasp that their incompetence can maim or injure. ).
