It was exhibited at the Anderson Galleries in 1924, and two years later included in the Société Anonyme’s An International Exhibition of Modern Art at the Brooklyn Museum. Like the later New York studies made from the Shelton Hotel (see Lot 3), this image of a chicken house window on his family’s estate in Lake George is rooted in a place he knew as home. In the 1926 Brooklyn exhibition, Stieglitz titled the present photograph Portrait of a Family.
