Öl/Lw., 80 x 100 cm, l. u. sign. Alexandre Altmann - Russisch-französischer Landschafts- und Stillebenmaler. A. betätigte sich bereits als begabter Autodidakt, bevor er erst 18-jährig nach Wien und von dort nach Paris ging. Er studierte an der Académie Julian bei W.-A. Bouguereau und H. de Toulouse-Lautrec. Seit 1908 stellte er im Salon d'Automne und im Salon des Indépendants aus. Bei Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges ging der nach Russland, kehrte aber 1922 nach Frankreich zurück. Lit.: Vollmer, Bénézit.

A. worked as a talented self-taught artist before he went to Vienna and Paris, only 18 years old. He studied at the Académie Julian under W.-A. Bouguereau and H. de Toulouse-Lautrec. Since 1908 he exibited at the Salon d'Automne and at the Salon des Indépendants. At the outbreak of WW I he went to Russia but returned to France in 1922. Lit.: Vollmer, Bénézit.
