Spine sunned, extremities bumped and worn, minor staining to boards, scattered foxing, map professionally repaired, ink stamp to front free endpapers. "An early work of travel and exploration in South Africa. Alexander hunted lions near the Orange River, with additional sport after springbok and rhinoceros. Besides relating numerous encounters between natives and wild beasts, the author 'decried the wanton sport of killing four elephants in one day, or the same number of hippopotami, with the same gun...' --an early statement on conservation" (Czech).
