Lot of 2, each on cream square-cornered mounts. Includes one view with Gardner's imprinted 1862 copyright line on recto and applied printed label from Gardner's Photographic Incidents of the War series on verso, ID'd No. 359/Group, Servants of Officers of Staff, Camp Winfield Scott, Near Yorktown, May 3, 1862, capturing a lighthearted moment in the midst of McClellan's Peninsula Campaign, with several men smoking pipes, one reclining on the ground swilling a bottle of alcohol, and one who has snuck into the photo by climbing a tree behind and above the rest of the group; PLUS one with Gardner's 1863 copyright line on recto, blank on verso, showing a group of men sitting in the shade of their tents and a lone tree at a fortified hilltop camp. Provenance: Descended in the family of Captain William W. Beckwith, 80th NY Condition: Light edge and corner wear, else very good.
