Property from an Important Estate, New EnglandALEXANDER CALDER1898 - 1976 UNTITLED signed with the artist's initials and dated 56 oil on canvas23¾ by 28¾ in. 60.3 by 73 cm.framed: 34 by 39 in. 86.4 by 99.1 cm. this work is registered in the archives of the Calder Foundation, New York, under application number A29260.Condition ReportThis work is in good condition overall. There is evidence of handling and wear to the edges including areas of intermittent rubbing to the pigment and scattered, pigment loss at the perimeter of all four edges, most concentrated at the corners. The canvas has scattered scuffs, abrasions and scratches visible throughout, most notably along the central vertical axis 4 ½ inches from the bottom edge, as well as in the area of red paint in the center of the composition. Close inspection reveals scattered brown spot accretions throughout the composition most visibly near the right edge 10 inches from the bottom edge and 1 inch from the right edge as well as 6 inches from the top edge and 3 inches from the right edge. Under extremely close inspection there are fine networks of craquelure visible throughout, particularly in the areas of white pigment which are also lightly soiled. Under ultraviolet light inspection much of the white pigment fluoresces darkly, which is inherent to the artist’s chosen medium at the time of execution. Framed
