Albumen photograph, 5.75 x 8.25, on 6.5 x 8.5 in., with Andrew C. Postel, Mascoutah, Ill. imprint on mount recto. Note the pile of lumber at extreme right in the photograph. Although the scene is unidentified, a modern typed note that accompanies the photograph suggests that this could be an image of the sawmill gang, which was located immediately south of New Memphis Station, Clinton County, IL. New Memphis was a town in 1856, before the railroad came through, the tracks running about a mile south of town. Thus, the depot was built next to the tracks. The bearded man, seated third from left, is identified in the typed note as Jesse Hensen, father of Anna Catherine Roseberry. William Roseberry is seated next to him, fourth from left. The typed note continues, "There was also a butcher block factory at that location. My father, James Arthur Treloggen, went to work there sometime after 1905 and apparently worked there until he married my mother in 1910. They moved to Kansas two weeks after their wedding." Condition: Even toning to print and mount. With few light spots/stains. Some corner wear to mount, scattered staining on mount verso.
