ALBUM: An album of over 100 photographs, almost all original, Malta, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea. (1951-53]. a single, contemporary album, bound in black lacquered boards, upper board hand painted with map of Japan and Korea against a backdrop of scenes from nature, overall 270 x 380mm, comprising of 119 black and white original photographs (some removed), with 1 Royal Naval Air Squadrons photographic commemorative print, and 2 coloured photographic postcards mounted with corner pockets on 22 leaves, many captioned in contemporary pen and pencil, original tissue-guards, various sizes, 47 x 52mm to 156 x 205m. This album documents a military operation of the 807 and 810 Royal Naval Air Squadrons, both of which were re-formed to serve in the Korean war, and the latter re-formed once again during the Suez Crisis. The photographs depict the squadrons leaving their base in Malta for Korea via Yemen, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan and document the Naval personnel in uniform, in planes and on deck, with local scenes and people the personnel encountered on their journey, including a snake charmer, a rickshaw driver, workers in paddy fields, workers in a china factory, general street scenes and places of worship.
