Aikin (Arthur, natural scientist and author, one of the founding members of the Geological Society of London, secretary to the Society of Arts, 1773-1854) Autograph Letter signed to The Trustees of the Botanic Garden, Liverpool, 1p., sm. 4to, Society of Arts, Adelphi, 20th November 1820, "The Society of Arts has received from Dr. Wallich [Nathaniel Wallich (1785-1854), botanist], Superintendent of the Botanic Garden at Calcutta, specimens of Rice and of other Grains from the Mountainous Districts of Nepal, and is desirous that Experiments should be made for the purpose of ascertaining the possibility of cultivating them in Europe. The Rice is to be steeped for three days in River water, and is then to be put into a Bag and hung up in a warm place till germination has commenced: the young plants are then to be placed in earth, and are to be kept in a constantly moist state", folds, browned.
