Agreeable to the Present State of the Newtonian Mathesis, 2 vol., second edition, 22 folding engraved plates, full-page woodcut illustration, tables and diagrams, advertisement leaf at end of vol.2, Robert Gardner's copy with his signature dated 1894 on front free endpapers, ink annotation concerning Smeaton and a pyrometer at foot of p.433 of vol.2 in chapter XV (on heat and cold and pendulums), lightly browned, modern half calf, spines slightly faded, [Baillie p.264; cf. Tardy p.171, 1764 edition], 8vo, W.Owen and the Author, 1759. *** Vol.2 includes Institutiones Horologicae, or, a Physico-Mathematical Theory of Clock-work. "Deals exhaustively with the theory of pendulums of various kinds and balance springs. Explains the construction of a clock with Planetarium, Tellurian and Lunarium." Baillie.
