AGOSTINI, Leonardo. Le Gemme Antiche Figurate, Rome: Apresso dell Autore, 1657-69. 2 parts in one volume, 4° (240 x 172mm). Engraved title, portrait of the artist and 267 engraved plates (some leaves and plates browned, occasional light spotting). Contemporary reverse calf gilt (joints split, extremities worn, rubbed). Provenance : "KATHERINE BLOUNT GIVEN ME BY MRS POPE 1736" (inscription at head of title); a later pencil note at the foot of the title reads: "See the Biographies for records of the Blounts who were knights and nobles, some of them with 'Pope' introduced among their Christian names. Alexander Pope the poet, was living in 1736" -- William Henry Goss 1892 (signature at head of title).
