One of the most celebrated ancient marbles of the celebrated Farnese collection, the original 11 feet high 2nd Century sculpture was discovered in the Baths of Caracalla and displayed in the courtyard of the Palazzo Farnese in Rome until 1790. It was copied extensively from the 18th century onwards, in bronze such as this example, and also in lead by Cheere and in Coade stone.
Condition Report:
Some rubbing and wear to patina on exposed areas of anatomy and edges, casting flaws to left arm, small spot casting bubbles, base with wear and marks and possibly with some remedial work to front edge
