It is carved from distinctive red marble and is itself a copy of a Hellenistic Greek original, depicting a drunken satyr. The Fauno Rosso was discovered at Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli and so it is thought that Hadrian commissioned the Roman red marble statue.
