After JOHN JAMES AUDUBON Mallard Duck, Plate CCXXI engraving with aquatint and hand-coloring, on wove paper, trimmed within the image, extensive tears, laid down on wove paper, other minor defects; and AUDUBON, John James Autograph letter signed ("John J. Audubon") to Mrs. Motley, Dedham, Massachusetts, 24 August 1840. 1 page, oblong, 124 x 195mm. (4.7/8 x 7.5/8in.) . Marginal tears and repairs, browned, slight stains not affecting text. Letter of thanks for hospitality: "My dear Mrs Motley, I feel truly happy in finding myself under your hospitible roof, in the company of your husband, Mother and surrounded by your beautiful and most interesting Children. - May the God that granted us all the favour of admiring his wondrous productions, help you and yours for ever; and may you be pleased to consider me always Your Sincerely humble Servant John J.
