After Giovanni Battista Moroni (Italian, 1546/7-1578) Il Tagliapanni (The Tailor) Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 39 x 30 1/4 in. (99.0 x 76.8 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, surface grime. N.B. The painting at hand is a faithful copy of The Tailor by Giovanni Battista Moroni in the National Gallery, London. The original was purchased by the National Gallery in 1862 from a collector in Bergamo, who bought it from a painter called Schiavone, who had acquired the picture around 1845. It had been in the Casa Grimani in Venice since before 1660. The measurements of the original are 97 x 74 cm, quite close to the copy at hand. The date of the copy is not known, but estimated to be 19th century.
