Lot of 4 items related to Private Marcus Harvey of the 28th Indiana USCT, Company B, including the following: full plate tintype of a young Marcus Harvey in plain clothes; a full plate tintype of Marcus Harvey in uniform, wearing a 9-button sack coat and kepi, armed with a rifle, and standing with an unidentified friend; a full plate tintype of an unidentified husband and wife who were friends, family, or associates of Harvey; and a photocopy of Harvey's marriage license that was acquired along with the group of images by the consignor and offers support in the identification of Harvey. Private Marcus Harvey enlisted in Company B., 28th USCT in December 1863 and mustered out in November 1865, fairly long service for a Civil War black soldier. The regiment fought at Petersburg as part of the 9th Corps and was present during the Mine Explosion. Later, the 28th USCT transferred to the 22nd Corps and saw Texas border duty before mustering out, having suffered 47 combat casualties during the war. Overall, a fine extended group of images. Condition: Tintypes in very good condition overall.
