(8vo) 18.5x11cm (7¼x4½"), finely bound in period three quarter calf and marbled boards, gilt decorated spine with raised bands, morocco spine labels lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers and edges. First Edition. Narrative, by a participant, of the expedition fitted out by John Jacob Astor to establish the "Pacific Fur Company." Wagner-Camp notes that "Elliott Coues considered this work to be one of the three `synoptical gospels' of the Astoria enterprise... Alexander Ross came to Astoria at its beginning and wrote of his experiences, including a general account of the venture, the country, and the overland expeditions of Wilson Hunt and Robert Stuart .." Field 1325; Graff 3576; Howes R448; Sabin 73327; Streeter 3713; Wagner-Camp 172; Wheat Transmississippi 635.
