Fanny Nelson intervenes on behalf of 'a relation of my late Lord's, Mr William Rolfe Mid[shipman] on board HMS Elizabeth', to whom she has sent a letter for Sir Edward Pellew, pointing out that Nelson himself wrote to Lord Melville about his promotion. 'It is past belief that only one relation in the Navy of The Hero should be sent to the Medi[terranean] for promotion'. Edward Hawke Locker (1777-1849), son of William Locker under whom Nelson served in 1777 and whom he held in great affection, was civil secretary to Sir Edward Pellew (later Viscount Exmouth) from 1804 to 1814, then Secretary to Greenwich Hospital. William Rolfe was the son of a first cousin to Nelson on his father's side. (4)
