Wear and lacks to the painting. 10.2 x 18.5 x 5.9 in. Admiral Phillip Parker King (1791-1856) was a naval officer, hydrographer and one of the first explorers of the Australian coast. In February 1824 he was made a member of the Royal Society. In London in 1826 he published his "Narrative of a Survey of the Intertropical and Western Coasts of Australia" in two volumes, partly illustrated by his sketches. In May 1826 he set sail under the command of H.M.S. Adventure, to trace the coasts of Peru, Chile and Patagonia. In 1855 he was promoted to retired Rear Admiral.
