Full-page woodcut and historiated initial in first work, title woodcut, historiated initial and ornamental initials in second work. (Lacking +1-3, A4.5 and C1 from first work and C1.4 from the second; light stain on D1 of Adimari, small wormhole in first leaf repaired, other minor repairs to vellum flaws.) Early 19th-century English blue morocco, gilt panelled sides, gilt spine, gilt turn-ins, g.e. Provenance : Earl of Powis (inscription on front pastedown). FIRST EDITIONS of these works on the Vallombrosans. John Gualbert (d.1073) founded the Vallombrosan movement based on an austere eremetical life in the forest near Florence. The monks were famed for their holiness, learning, and skill in miniature painting.
