In this exceedingly cordial letter, Adams thanks Klapp for an invitation to a wedding which he cannot attend as "the indispensable necessity of my attendances here on public duties, it being one of the last days of the session of Congress, must plead my apology, for denying myself a pleasure which could scarcely be greater were it to assist at the nuptials of a child of my own."
