The lot also includes by Coxe: Travels in Poland, Russia, Sweden, and Denmark. Volumes I and IV only (of 5). Engravings complete, and including: 6 folding engraved maps or plans. Fifth Edition. T. Cadell Jun. and W. Davies, 1802. * Travels in Switzerland, and in the Country of the Grisons: In a Series of Letters to William Melmoth. Vol. I and III only (of 3). Engravings complete, and including: 3 maps, including 2 folding maps, 1 of which is very large and has hand-colored red lines marking the routes taken. Fourth Edition. T. Cadell Jun. and W. Davies, 1801. Together 5 volumes, all uniformly bound octavos in spotted tan calf, with gilt-lettered morocco spine labels. William Coxe gained his start as a noted traveler, scholar and historian as the traveling tutor to the Duke of Marlborough's eldest son, in which capacity he first ventured into Russia; the present work results from a later continental tour. Each with the engraved armorial bookplate of Sir William H. Cooper, Bart. on front pastedowns. Lot Amendments Condition: Mostly light shelf and edge wear; most folding maps with tiny or slightly large closed stub tears; the usual light scattered foxing; else very good or near fine internally.
