ACCOUNT BOOKS -- Customs & Excise and British trade, 18th Century. A collection of five account books (and an index volume), manuscript on paper, 18th century, written in neat bookhands in brown ink, most with borders ruled in red, including: two volumes containing accounts of the excise, listing employments of the excise, including a 'stamper of the chocolate labels' (1728-1741), gross and net produce of duties on malt, hides, gilt, silver, candles, hops and other produce (c.1739-1750) and a 'State of the Revenue of Excise', including amongst other information a list of the numbers of brewers and victuallers in the kingdom (1662-1749), oblong 4to and small folio, uniformly bound in red morocco elaborately tooled in gilt, the first with stylised foliate and floral endpapers in green and gold, signed 'AB' (some wear, one board detached).
