Platinum print, 10 x 13.5 in., by Gertrude Kasebier (1852-1934), signed and copyrighted in pencil by the artist, lower left. Accompanied by typed label previously affixed on back of frame relating the history of the Lincoln picture as told by Hermine Kasebier Turner. Kasebier's relative, who was a contractor, was tearing down a hotel in Brooklyn, NY, and while going through the building, he came upon a trunk that contained a Civil War soldier's uniform. Inside the uniform's pocket was a CDV of Lincoln with an inscription from the soldier explaining that the photo was given to him by the president. The typed note states, in part, that Kasebier "copied this picture and worked on it for years to put into it what she considered the soul of Abraham Lincoln." Condition: Even toning to print, diagonal crease along lower left edge of print. Typed label from frame backing is ripped but still intact.
