Lot of 2, including a 7 x 6.5 x 10 in. bronze casting, on a 4.25 x 7 x 2 in. granite base, of the life mask made by sculptor Clark Mills in February 1865, two months prior to Lincoln's assassination, and a 6 x 10 x 4 in. gold painted plastic casting by sculptor Leonard Volk. Volk asked Lincoln to sit for a bust during a visit to Chicago to argue a court case in early 1860, but created the life mask to save time. Lincoln's comments on this process were anything but agreeable. Volk later used the life mask and bust of 1860 as the basis for other renderings, including a full-length statue of Lincoln for the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield. Condition: Very good condition.
