ABBOTT, BERENICE (1898-1981) New York at Night 1932. Vintage toned gelatin silver print, 6 7/8 x 4 3/4 inches (175 x 120 mm), housed in the photographer's sleeve of a folded sheet of tan hand-made paper, signed on the mount (l.r.), the photographer's 56 West 53rd New York City credit stamp on the verso of the print. The folds of the paper folder brittle, including a minor tear to the mount well clear of the signature, some nominal handling creases but the image in excellent condition. Vintage examples of Abbott's great New York view are rare. Two in this size are recorded at auction, the last at Sotheby's in 2008. This example was the gift of the photographer to one of her subjects, and has remained in the family until the present day. C
