Bought Minab Market January 1992; a womanÆs mask from Minab. This mask is red as worn by the women of Sirk and Minab - on market day they were everywhere. They are sometimes further embellished by cross stitch embroidery and even sequins. Bought Minab Market, January 1992, and a womanÆs mask from Gorbedan, a village away from the coast on Qeshm Island, indigo and gold with green and gold ties, (Ir-16). Given by Sharareh, Qeshm Island, January 1992 (Gorbedan is her husbandÆs village.) æShe was wearing one of the two masks and removed the gold flowers at the sides before giving it to me. Fabric is bought from the bazaar and comes from India. Masks always worn by married women but not by girls. I had another one from a village on the coast between Qeshm and Loft, but it was stolen at my exhibition at St Martin-in-the-Fields.Æ
