Beschreibung:

A Wodaabe skirt wrap for man or woman, of striped cotton indigo cloth, woven in strips, in green, white, and red embroidery along two edges, and with eyelet and chain stitch in orange red, green, yellow, white, (Af-6). The motifs are all symbolic - see card with the textile; a womanÆs beaded cache-sexe from Foumban, Cameroon, of irregular design, edged with cowrie shells, 21cm x 42.5cm including fringe, (Af-30). Originally worn particularly in the north of the country; most of these are very plain though there are now very few to be found and they are no longer worn. Bought in Foumban, 2001; a strip of indigo ndop cloth with white reserve and a zigzag pattern, (Af-31). Ndop cloths were hung on the walls of the palace of Bafut at the festival. They were also worn by the FonÆs guard and by other dignitaries. Bought Foumban, 2001; and a strip of pale indigo ndop cloth in three sections, (Af-32).
