A VICTORIAN MAHOGANY BILLIARD-CUE STAND Attributed to Gillows With a collection of billiard room accessories by Gillows, Orme and Sons, and Burroughs and Watts The Stand: with pierced rectangular top on ring-turned and reeded and baluster reeded supports above the base with thirty-two sunken circles for holding cues, above two short drawers, on gadrooned bun feet with sunk brass castors, one drawer containing a baize-brush and a brass mechanism for cue tips, a six-piece cue-stand, stamped to the reverse 'ORME & SONS 1176 MANCHESTER' and another four piece oak cue-stand, ten boxes of chalk, one box of cue tips, a box of black dots, two further containers of chalk, two baize fish and a sighting angle, the other drawer containing a hand-held metal-mounted score board by Burroughs & Watts, a billiard break book in its original box, three boxes of ivory balls by Burroughs and Watts, eighteen balls in total, two boxes of bonzoline balls, and a box of 'STEVENS & SONS' balls, nine in total, three and half bar billiards; The Scoreboard: with central chalk board and point scoring mechanisms and sliding panels inscribed with each snooker colour, stamped twice 'ORME AND SONS 1630 MANCHESTER' The cues: in ash, pine, amaranth, mahogany and ash, a group of seven of varying sizes, two stamped 'THRUSTON 14 CATHERINE ST. LONDON' and one stamped 'ORME AND SONS, MANCHESTER' (approx. 60 in. (152 cm.) long); a group of seven cues, of varying sizes (approx. 58 in. (147 cm.) long) one with ivory inset to the end, the others lacking the ivory, each stamped 'GILLOWS'; a group of eight cues of varying sizes, seven stamped 'ORME AND SONS MANCHESTER' and the other stamped 'G Chisolm', (approx. 59 in. (150 cm.) long); a group of nine cues with ebony-inlaid handles (eight with ivory inset), inscribed 'Registered John Roberts Jr.' and stamped 'BURROUGHS AND WATTS', the other stamped 'ORME AND SONS MANCHESTER' (57¾ in. (146.5 cm.) long); a group of four rests, two stamped twice 'ORME AND SONS'; a group of six long cues, two stamped 'ORME AND SONS MANCHESTER', a brass-mounted rest and two cues stamped 'BURROWS AND WATTS, LONDON', one stamped 'J MORISON, EDINBURGH' Also with two wicker baskets containing twenty-six balls, one basket with damaged neck and a twelve-piece cue-stand stamped 'ORME AND SONS 1569 MANCHESTER' The cue stand: 62½ in.
