Staffordshire saltglaze hawks were made in several different sizes and vary in their colouring, from simple brown washes as here, to full polychrome enamelling. A larger pair, coloured as the present lot, is in the Weldon Collection at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (inv. no.G1969-11).
