With fullered blade (some rust patination) double-edged towards the point and etched over half its length on each side with maker's details, owner's coat-of-arms, motto and monogram, crowned elaborate 'VR' monogram and regimental badge between scrolling foliage, further regimental badges and mottoes, and full battle honours to Afghanistan, the forte on one side with brass-lined maker's proof mark within an etched star, regulation nickel-plated hilt comprising guard pierced and chased with foliage and crowned 'VR' monogram, the latter above an applied nickel regimental badge, pommel and chequered back-piece, wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, and plaited leather sword-knot, in original field service scabbard covered in pigskin, and complete with a leather travelling cover (flap missing) 88.5 cm. blade
