A VERY LARGE THANGKA DEPICTING BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI AND HIS LIFE STORIES TIBET, 19TH-20TH CENTURY Buddha Shakyamuni is depicted to the centre, seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base with his hands held in bhumisparshamudra , supporting an alms bowl in his lap. He is dressed in flowing robes and his hair is tied in tight knots, and piled in a tuft below a gold ornament. There are three lamas depicted below the Buddha, carrying offerings, and he is surrounded by various scenes from his previous incarnations in past lives. 84 ¼ in. x 71 5/8 in. (182 X 214 cm)
