A SWISS FRUITWOOD AND STAINED FRUITWOOD DINING-TABLE, inlaid overall with ebonised stringing, the top with bowed ends inlaid with chequered borders and centred by an oval, with chequered frieze above greek-key, on square tapering legs with walnut panels headed by paterae and simulated triglyphs and with brass caps, late 18th Century, with ink inscription Dec.R 1907 Purchased at Berne. I visited the family at Hubsen (3 Stations from Berne) who sold the table to the Dealer I got it from & who had the rest of the suite of which this table formed part. I learned that it was made in Emmenthal, Canton, Berne, & was a wedding present to his great-grandmother who was named in - 60. I was shown her miniature and .. of her husband , later blocks 124in.(315cm.)wide; 31in.(78.5cm.)high; 52in.(132cm.)deep
