A SWEPT-HILT RAPIER with blade of flattened hexagonal section with narrow fuller on each face of the forte, iron hilt with guard of slender bars (slight damage) comprising vertically recurved quillons and knuckle-guard with bulbous tips, the former linked by a trifurcated diagonal bar to the arms, and on the outside by a bar to the upper of two side-rings, the space between the latter filled by bars each with bulbous tip, associated fluted pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip, circa 1600; another, in 16th Century style, the symmetrical hilt with knuckle-guard and straight quillons with mushroom-shaped tips, arms and double side-rings linked to the knuckle-guard by side-bars, fig-shaped pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip; another, composite, with broad fullered double-edged blade, the hilt with guard of slender bars (minor repairs), barrel-shaped pommel, and spirally fluted wooden grip, early 17th Century 39½in., 39¼in. and 34½in. blades (3)
