A SUITE OF LOUIS XVI PAINTED SEAT FURNITURE IN THE MANNER OF PLUVINET, FRENCH, LAST QUARTER 18TH CENTURY Comprising a canape and eight fauteuils, some chairs with a stamp 'P' under the arms, the painted and parcel gilt frames carved with entrelac, the silk upholstery painted with vases of flowers in Chinese style by Nicolas Zuberbuller, two of the chairs with loose seat cushions The chairs 94cm high, 63cm wide, 66cm deep, the canape 105cm high, 194cm wide, 87cm deep Provenance: Private Collection, London Sotheby's, London, Important French Furniture, 17th June 1960, Lot 138. A copy of the Sotheby's 1960 catalogue is with this lot. Christie's, London, The English Collector, 13th November 2014 Philippe-Joseph Pluvinet was received Maitre in 1754; Louis-Madeleine Pluvinet was received Maitre in 1775. The present lot is illustrated in Connaissance Des Arts, Sommaire 104 Octobre 1960, p84. For a similar canape and fauteuil see Jean Nicolay, Maitres Ebenistes Francaise, p378. A copy of the Connaissance 1960 magazine is with this lot. A chair of related form is in the Petit Trianon.
