(Military) Member’s 2nd type breast badge, very fine and better (6) £120-160 Footnote Note: the above medals are representative of those awarded to Lieutenant Haas. M.B.E. approved 18 August 1945. Recommendation: ‘On 23rd March 1945 during the attack on Wesel, Lieut Haas crossed the Rhine with Tac Headquarters First Commando Brigade which moved with the leading Commando to the assault. Throughout the crossing and subsequent approach march to Wesel he showed a complete disregard for his personal safety and was one of the first to enter Wesel. This gallant officer, whose only official duty was to assist in the link up with 17 U.S. Airborne Division expressed a wish to be used as a Liaison Officer within the Brigade and during the first twenty-four hours in Wesel frequently risked his life whilst employed on hazardous liaison duties. His courage and devotion to duty were outstanding.’ With copied recommendation; together with four metal and one cloth badges for display purposes.
