A SET OF TWELVE GEORGE II SILVER DINNER-PLATES FROM THE DOWAGER DUCHESS OF SOMERSET SERVICE MARK OF EDWARD WAKELIN LONDON, 1749 Each shaped circular and with gadrooned rim, engraved with lozenge-of-arms below a duchess' coronet, each marked on the reverse, further engraved with a number and scratchweight 'n o2 19=0'; 'n o3 18=14'; 'n o6 19=0'; 'n o7 18=17'; 'n o8 18=19'; 'n o11 18=8'; 'n o17 18=17'; 'n o20 18=15'; 'n o22 18=8'; 'n o24 18=17'; 'n o28 18=16' and 'n o31 19=1' 9¾ in. (24.8 cm.) diam. 211 oz. (6,568 gr.) The arms are those of Seymour impaling Finch for Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset (d.1749) and his second wife Lady Charlotte Finch, (d.1773) who he married in 1725/6 and as borne by the Dowager Duchess of Somerset.
