A Set of Miniature Lacquer Furniture for the Girl's Day Festival ( Hina Matsuri ) Edo period (19th century) The set designed in gold lacquer against a roiro nuri ground with scrolling vines and open fans with gold-foil suns or scrolling vines and plum blossoms against a nashiji ground, the hardware silver carved with foliate scroll, the set comprising a palanquin with bamboo blinds; a book shelf ( shodana ); two portable tea kettles ( cha bento ) with a tea cup, tea cup stand ( tenmoku dai ) and fresh water basin; a rectangular lidded trunk ( nagamochi ), footed storage trunk ( karabitsu ) and a smaller lidded trunk; a storage cabinet ( tansu ); a set of accessories for the incense game ( kodogu ); a sword stand ( katana kake ); a toilet set, mirror stand, comb and comb box, kimono stand and tray, and water basin; a writing box ( suzuribako ), writing table ( bundai ), lectern and three document boxes ( fubako ); nine covered boxes; a stacking box ( jubako ) 13¾ x 9¼ x 11in.
