A set of five gilt bronze twin light wall appliques in Louis XVI taste by Henry Dasson, together with a later example cast to match, last quarter 19th century and later, the twist fluted and foliate cast sconces on conforming reeded arms issuing from guilloche cast backplates with tied ribbon finials and suspending berried terminals, two stamped with monogram HD in oval reserve, another indistinctly marked, 51cm high, 34cm wide, 15cm protuberance; the later example 49cm high, 31cm wide Though primarily known for his fine pieces of furniture, renowned French ebeniste Henry Dasson (1825-1896) actually started his career as a bronze sculptor, and continued to design high quality bronze mounts and decorative objects throughout his life. The present wall appliques are examples of Dasson's activity as a designer of bronze objets d'art, and look back to the Louis XVI style, which he favoured
