Approximately 2,500 standard model Joslyn revolvers were made from 1861 to 1862. Many were purchased as supplementary sidearms during the Civil War despite their poor reputation among soldiers. This example has a .44 caliber 7 - 3/4" octagon barrel stamped in top flat "B.F. JOSLYN/PATD MAY 4TH 1858". Blued finish with case hardened loading lever and hammer. Grips are checkered walnut. CONDITION: Very good. Majority of bluing is turning to a brown patina with some spots of added finish where pits were filled in. Trigger guard retains significant portions of its bright high polish blue with scratches and wear. Traces of case colors present. Grips have wear and impressions throughout with some chipping along edges. Bright bore displaying strong rifling and some light pitting. Fine mechanics. Full or partial serial numbers observed on frame, barrel (renumbered), loading lever, lever catch, cylinder, cylinder arbor, hand, trigger guard, and grips. PROVENANCE: Ex. Rich Guckes.
