A RARE WHITE STONE FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA NORTHERN QI/SUI DYNASTY The standing figure holding a lotus bud in his right hand and an alms bowl pouch in the left, wearing layered skirts folded over the sash tied around the hips, with celestial scarves draped over the shoulders, looped over the arms and trailing down the sides to the lotus socle, the face carved with small, smiling mouth and gentle expression below a tripartite headdress tied with pendent ribbons, the white crystalline stone now with traces of black pigment and a dark buff and brownish patina, the whole supported on a separate rectangular plinth of the same stone carved on the front with a kneeling figure supporting an incense burner flanked by a pair of lions, carved with a dated inscription (now mostly obscured), chips--41 in.
