A rare Swiss mahogany cased experimental two-day marine chronometer with pivoted detent escapement Ulysse Nardin, No. 631. Circa 1914 The silvered dial engraved with Roman chapters with fine blued steel hands, signed ULYSSE NARDIN LOCLE SUISSE with bas/haut subsidiary above and larger seconds ring below engraved 631 filled with red, the movement with circular spotted plates, chain fusee and spring barrel, the escapement with cut bimetallic compensated 'integral' Guillaume balance with four circular heat compensation weights and blued steel spring, experimental pivoted detent escapement with nickel plated bridges with jewelled screwed chatons for the 'scape wheel and pivoted detent, the top plate stamped with the Ulysse Nardin mark and numbered 631 , original lacquered brass bowl also numbered 631 and gimbal, the three-tier box signed ULYSSE NARDIN LOCLE, SUISSE on a bone plaque to the centre section and further numbered 631 on a silvered plaque to the lower section, the brass-bound box with recessed drop handles to the sides. 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) x 6¾ in. (17 cm.) x 7¼ in. (18.5 cm.)
