A rare, mid 19th-century lacquered-brass compound monocular microscope, signed on the body tube Schiek in Berlin No. 201 , with rack and pinion coarse focusing via the steel triangular section limb, mounted on a compass joint, the stage with fine screw adjustment to allow for precision examination, with sub-stage compressor attachment, and plano-concave mirror, mounted on a tapering pillar support and folding tripod stand, the microscope -- 20.1/8in. (51cm.) high in fully raised position , with five eyepieces, micrometer stage attachment also numbered 201 , slide clamp, slide compressor, five numbered objectives, two lignum-vitae sliders with six of eight specimens, forceps and probe, and bull's-eye condenser, a typed sheet of operating instructions, and manuscript letter in ink with list of preparations and other instructions, dated 21.II.48 ([?] 1848), contained in the original finely made plush-lined mahogany case, with two supplementary accessory drawers, ivory draw pulls and key escutcheon, with two brass hooks and adjustable retaining pins, the case -- 19in.
