A RARE EARLY CARVED BONE FITTING WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY Possibly a handle or finial, carved in the form of recumbent fantastic animal with scrolls outlining and decorating the various parts of the body, with large head and upright ears flanking a pair of small curved horns which form small confronted zoomorphs, the mane also enclosing zoomorphs and the scrolls on the rear haunches terminating in a bird's head, the mouth pierced and the underside carved with two circular depressions, traces of cuprite and malachite encrustation from bronze, cracks--2¼in.
