Jacobsz, South African Native Labour Corps, late Harrismith Commando Anglo-Boer War Dekoratie voor Trouwe Dienst 1899-1902 (Kapt. en Adj. J. Jacobsz); The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 1st type breast badge, silver-gilt, hallmarks for London 1919; Anglo-Boer War Medal 1899-1902 (Kapt. en Adj. J. Jacobsz); British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Lt. Col. J. Jacobsz), good very fine and better (5) £1600-1800 Footnote O.B.E. London Gazette 3 June 1919. Jan Jacobsz, who was born in February 1884, served as Captain & Adjutant of the Harrismith Commando from August 1899 until July 1902; the award of his D.T.D. was announced in U.D.F. General Order No. 425 of October 1922. Appointed a Lieutenant-Colonel in South African Native Labour Corps in November 1916, Jacobsz served in France in the period February to November 1917, gaining a mention in despatches (London Gazette 5 July 1919, refers) and the O.B.E. Among other events during his time in France, he was presented to King George V, Queen Mary and the Prince of Wales during their visit to the S.A.N.L.C. at Abbeville on 10 July 1917. He became an Honorary Colonel of the Harrismith Commando in December 1936 and died in May 1943; sold with copied research.
