A RARE AND SUPERBLY PAINTED LARGE BLUE AND WHITE MEIPING YUAN DYNASTY robustly potted with high rounded shoulders tapering to a slightly flared foot, deftly painted in rich cobalt blue tones, the main register with four large peony blooms alternating between profile, top and underside view, all borne on a continuous undulating leafy stem, between two narrow rows of classic scroll, the shoulder draped with four cloud-shaped lappets alternately enclosing phoenix on a peony ground and blackberry lily ground with panels enclosing chrysanthemums, below a further classic scroll, all above upright lotus panels skirting the base, the character deng incised on the neck, all beneath a slightly blue-tinged transparent glaze, the recessed knife-pared based left unglazed 43 cm., 17 in.
