A RARE AND IMPORTANT GERMAN SILVER-GILT MOUNTED CHINESE PORCELAIN EWER AND DISH THE PORCELAIN WANLI, CIRCA 1600, THE EWER CONVERTED FROM A FLASK, BOTH MOUNTS WITH THE MARK OF JAKOB BACHMANN, AUGSBURG, CIRCA 1655-1660, IN ORIGINAL GILT-TOOLED RED LEATHER CASES The lower part of the broadly fluted pear-shaped blue and white porcelain flask painted with two flying birds and two perched birds on branches and rockwork with flowers and insects below a horizontal shaped band of stylised ruyi , the neck with jewelled trelliswork ornament, the quatrefoil silver-gilt foot mount pinned to the base of the ewer, resting on four double scroll feet and repoussé and chased with auricular scrolls with scalloped border above, the demi-caryatid female figure handle terminating in beaded bifurcated scrolls attached to a neck band with engraved scalloped borders and plain shaped spout capped by a cast sea-monster's head; the circular dish with rounded sides and broad flat rim, the central medallion with single white peony blossom encircled by blue leaves, inside a band of clouds and outer band of ruyi heads, the rim reserved in white against a blue background with auspicious symbols and plants including conch shell, double gourd, endless knot, lozenge, ruyi , rhinoceros horn, peonies and chrysanthemums, the underside of the rim painted with lingzhe fungus sprays interspersed with butterflies, and the exterior base with stylized flowers and leaves, the underside of the base with auspicious character reading fugui jiaqi (fine vessel of Riches and Fortunes), the silver-gilt foot mount with flat shaped circular border chased with auricular scrollwork and matting and with plain scalloped upper border, pinned to two openwork chased and engraved scroll, foliage and beaded straps terminating in winged cherub's busts applied to the upper border; each in contemporary red leather case in two parts attached by swivel hooks and tooled with gilt jewel-like foliate, scroll ornament and arcading, marked on foot of ewer and base of dish The ewer 12 in.
