De Witts Inn, Kingston, New York, circa 1800 the rectangular pine panel painted with a profile view of a crocodile with open jaws and "whales-tooth" shaped teeth, the body supported on four pad-like feet resembling lion's or bear's paws, with furry spikes rising from its back and tail; the crocodile is posed on a green lawn, blue sky above, a black border inscribed in yellow with traces of gilding: G.D. Witt's. Inn., the reverse similarly decorated, though more weathered, the whole within a black and yellow ogee molded frame suspended from wrought iron hooks with spade termini. 22 by 39 in.
