A RARE AND FINE CLOISONNE ENAMEL AND GILT-BRONZE TWO-HANDLED VESSEL AND COVER, XU CAST QIANLONG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-95) Based on an archaic bronze prototype, supported on a splayed raised foot notched at the front and back, and applied with looped handles issuing from dragons' mouths, the upper rim flanged to accept the cover, the latter doubling as a basin and applied with four equidistant feet, formed as stylised monster heads, represented in profile, the exterior decorated in predominantly red, green and pale ochre with wide and narrow bands of dissolved archaistic motifs, the top with four expanded taotie masks, the interior of the bowl and cover similarly decorated throughout with four lotuses centring on a large blossom, executed in fine gilt wire, all reserved throughout on a pale turquoise ground, slight rim distortion 11½ in. (29.4 cm.) wide across handles
