Serial no. 51046. 12 gauge. 30 inch Whitworth steel barrels marked Lefever Arms Co./Whitworth Steel. Barrels with gold bands and fine scroll engraved wedges at breech. Locking dolls-head fastener. Engine-turned concave rib with double beads. Casehardened sculpted side-plate action fully engraved with a mixture of fine and bold foliate scroll, chain borders and game scene ovals with gold inlays: left side: setter and quail in gold, right side: pointer and woodcock in gold, underside: mallard and setter in gold, and pigeon in gold on top lever. Fences with floral trefoils in relief. Watertable marked Optimus. Gold plated checkered double triggers and cocking indicators. Lefever features including compensating action, selective safety and adjustable trigger-pull. Finely checkered half-pistolgrip stock of highly figured walnut. Arrowhead shaped horn inlays with two ivory insets behind sideplates. Horn gripcap. Vacant gold shield. One inch multi-layer Jostam recoil pad. Finely checkered pull-off splinter fore-end with a gold dog's head inlayed on the escutcheon. Sculpted horn fore-end tip. Stock and fore-end with elaborate checkering with scalloped borders, arrow heads, scrolls and banding. Alligator-hide leg-of-mutton case with implement pouch. Condition: Excellent. 94-96 percent bluing with some slight thinning at fore-end, light spotting and fine scratches. Bright bores. Action shows 60-70 percent case colors. Gold plating on triggers shows slight losses. Triggerguard shows 20-30 percent bluing to exterior. Stock shows slight markings and 1/4 inch crack at the rear of left lock. Stock and fore-end show well defined checkering. Recoil pad shows wear. Case in Fine condition, as redone. Exterior has been re-varnished. Handle is detached. Handle mounts have been damaged. Interior shows some wear. Pouch straps are torn and lid shows losses. Data: Barrel dimensions: Bore: 0.735/0.738 inches. Chokes: 0.043/0.044 inches (Extra Full/Extra Full). Chambers: 2 3/4 inches.
